Index your Blog to Google Search

I think that this is the most important part, because Google is the biggest search engine and it will be the main source of traffic for your blog.

Step 1: Adding a Blog and Ownership Verification

To add you blog to Google, you need to go to Google Webmasters Tools and click “Add a site…” button. Put your blog address (ex. – yourblog.com) and click “Continue“. After this procedure, Google will ask you to verify ownership of your blog. The easiest way to do this is to “add a meta tag to your site’s home page“, so choose this option. Google will generate a meta tag for you. You need to copy this tag, go to your blog’s template folder (or Dashboard => Appearance => Editor) open your header.php file and put meta tag somewhere between head section:

Save your header.php and click “Verify” on “Verify ownership” page.

Your blog is added to Google and now it’s time to move to the next step – submitting a sitemap to Google.

Step 2: Submitting a Sitemap to Google

Sitemap is a kind of map of your blog or website, which contains links to all your pages and posts. Sitemap will help Google to find all your content much faster. If you don’t know how to create sitemap for your blog, then read this post – Creating a Sitemaps for WordPress Blog.

There can be several types of sitemaps:
  • Sitemap for posts and pages;
  • Specialized Sitemaps for images, video, mobile, news, geo and code search.
I will show you how to add Sitemap for posts and pages, other Sitemaps can be added the same way. Choose your blog in Google Webmasters Tools, go to “Site configuration” => “Sitemaps” and click on “Submit a Sitemap“. Now you need to enter a path to your Sitemap, usually it is “sitemap.xml” (look at the illustration); click on “Submit Sitemap” and you are done.

The same way you can add a Sitemap for images and video, but the name of the .xml file will be different (before adding your Sitemaps to Google, be sure that you have created them).
